Having landed the doors of our plane are opened and the rush of warm Mallorcan air engulfs me, as I approach the opening I am bathed in sunshine, I feel as if the whole island is saying welcome back. I am so elated I do not notice the long walk through the airport to collect our luggage. Our luggage is first on the conveyor (this place is certainly lucky for me) we walk across the arrivals hall and head for the kiosk where the friendly faces of ................................ await. We are not there long, as a member of their club, my details are already on their computer. Armed with the car key and bay number we head off past the rows of waiting Taxis and package holiday coaches to find our car. Luggage safely loaded we set off to our hotel in the North of the island. As usual the new motorways are clear and have excellent signage so I enjoy a stress free drive right to the hotel. I had booked the hotel online through ............................whom I have used many times in the past. Their descriptions are very good so I knew there was a car park at the hotel. This time the room was not sea view, but looked out towards mountains with some spectacular views especially at sunset. The added bonus was being at the back of the hotel it was much quieter at bedtime, great for us more mature types. The rest of the day is spent unpacking, and checking out the area both in and around the hotel. Good news! The hotel bar serves San Miguel on draught. Next morning as we are half board we head for the restaurant for a buffet style breakfast, with our stomachs full we go in search for English newspapers which we soon find. Walking along the seafront we spot a couple of sun beds that need holding down so we willingly obliged! I lay back and start reading my paper. The Mallorcan air and sunshine soon cocoon me and it is not long before my paper falls to the sand and my top eyelids fall to meet my lower ones. I remain resting my eyes for about an hour when my cocoon suddenly bursts into flames and I get this terrible burning feeling in my legs. I open my eyes and behold I had not put sun lotion on my legs and they were now as red as a postman’s nose on a frosty morning. Luckily my good lady had some after sun lotion with her which she applied and made me feel better, the after sun lotion helped as well. By now it is lunchtime so we wander along the beach to a bar we noticed earlier where we order two baguettes. The waiter is a Catalan speaker and I can not remember the word for coffee so I am forced to order a beer. The baguettes are lovely the beer is even better so I take the waiters advice and have another. After such a lovely lunch the only thing to do is return to the sun bed but this time I remember the Sun Lotion! To be continued:
